ABOUT

You found us, We are (the)MAGAZINE.
Yes, the brackets are there for a reason.
It’s a wink and a message at the same time.

We are experimenting with format, identity, and what people expect, all of which come from subculture, critique, or art.

(the)MAGAZINE publishes themed issues when there’s something worth exploring. Each issue is a field rather than a statement, something to enter, not to finalize.

We don’t want to be in charge. We exist in the space between where radical ideas, underground culture, creative resistance, and stories that don’t fit anyplace else may all come together.

Born from the edges and made for movement, (the)MAGAZINE publishes research, criticism, science fiction, speculative writing, performance diaries, and experimental work. These forms engage with art, advocacy, change, and fashion and clothing as culture, only when they stand for something.

We think that writing can have an effect.
We think that subculture is culture.
We believe in your voice, your vision, and the way you see the future.

It’s a magazine, or maybe it’s “the” magazine. Interpret it however you want.

Nothing here resolves into a single position. Each issue, each text, each fragment is                                                       to hold more than one reading at the same time. Meaning is not delivered,  it is                                                               assembled. Contradictions are not errors. They are part of the structure. A single work may be ecological, aesthetic, political, and indifferent all at once. None of these interpretations cancel the others. They remain active together. The reader is not outside the work. The reader completes it.

HOW TO
READ THIS

Each issue is built on one idea: more than one thing can be true at the same time.

We do not resolve themes into arguments. We hold them in parallel. A theme is not a thesis. It is a field where different realities, interpretations, and contradictions coexist without needing to cancel each other out. Nothing is asked to settle. Everything is allowed to remain.

PRINCIPLE

We believe that telling stories of strength, activism, and new ideas can motivate people to                                           act and make their communities better places to live. At the same time, we recognize that systemic issues require more than individual inspiration. They require structural and policy change, collective action, and long-term pressure. Both of these things can be true at the same time. Individual narratives matter. Systems matter. One does not replace the other.
